Orton Suggests MGK is Lying About Confrontation
Randy Orton responded Tuesday to musician Machine Gun Kelly's claim that they had a confrontation of sorts at SummerSlam earlier this month.
MGK appeared on Logan Paul's Impaulsive podcast on Tuesday, and at one point during their conversation, he discussed his issues with Orton:
Kelly said he saw Orton at SummerSlam and remembered that The Viper had "talked s--t" about him in the past. In response, MGK said he told Orton, "Hey man, f--k you."
Orton seemed to imply Tuesday that it never happened, as he posted a long-nosed, Pinocchio-esque emoji meant to signify lying, while also tagging MGK:
MGK then posted a couple of replies on X, claiming that the "cameras were rolling" when it happened:
Like Orton, New Day member Xavier Woods openly questioned the validity of MGK's claims as well:
Austin Creed @AustinCreedWinsIf I know one thing about @RandyOrton - if someone was to actually curse him to his face then that person would no longer have the ability to tell that story. https://t.co/YITebT8RoE
While neither Orton nor MGK have said where their beef originated, former pro wrestling reporter Ryan Satin posted a screenshot of Orton's wife, Kim, posting side-by-side photos of Orton's proposal to her and MGK's proposal to Megan Fox, along with Orton's comment, which read, "MGK is a mark."
MGK has some history with WWE, as he performed at WrestleMania 28 and was powerbombed by Kevin Owens in 2015.
At SummerSlam, which was held in MGK and Paul's hometown of Cleveland, MGK accompanied Paul for his United States Championship match against LA Knight.
Orton was not on the SummerSlam card, but he did a run-in to help Cody Rhodes during his WWE Championship match against Solo Sikoa in the main event.
While WWE would conceivably like to maintain a good relationship with MGK since he is a notable name in the music business, Orton is a WWE lifer and a true legend in the pro wrestling business, so it seems likely that most of Orton's peers will back him.
WWE Reportedly Scrapped Heel Turn Plans for New Day
Amid speculation that WWE is perhaps teasing a New Day breakup, a story dropped this week regarding a New Day heel turn idea that was scrapped in 2021.
Speaking on his The Wrestling Matt podcast (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), former WWE personality Matt Camp peeled back the proverbial curtain and discussed the plan to turn Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods heel that was never followed through on:
"There was a plan for Woods and Kofi to be heels when [Woods] won King of the Ring. That was absolutely in play. I didn't get a lot of details, but there was thought of the power going to his head and he finally wins what he always wanted to win and all that."
For years, Woods talked about his desire to see the King of the Ring tournament return and for him to win it, and it all finally came to fruition in 2021.
Woods beat Finn Bálor in the finals of the tournament to earn the title of king, and he leaned into it by wearing the crown and cape.
Typically, babyfaces who win King of the Ring don't continue to play the king character after winning, whereas it is quite common for heels to do so, which suggests Camp's information may be accurate.
When Woods, Kingston and Big E first formed New Day in 2014, they were heels and consistently got some of the best heel reactions from fans of anyone on the roster.
Eventually, fans realized they were so talented and entertaining that they began embracing them, leading to a face turn in 2016.
New Day have been babyfaces ever since, and while it is understandable that WWE may not want to go away from what works, it can be argued that a heel turn for one or both of Woods and Kingston could freshen things up at this stage of their careers.
Humberto Carrillo Reportedly Re-Signs with WWE
Legado del Fantasma member Humberto Carrillo is reportedly staying in WWE for the foreseeable future.
According to Fightful Select (h/t Subhojeet Mukherjee of Ringside News), Carrillo signed a new contract with WWE at around the same time his cousin, Angel Garza, did.
Garza confirmed back in July during a Facebook stream (h/t Mukherjee) that he signed a new, three-year deal to remain in WWE.
Per Fightful, Carrillo's new contract is a multi-year deal that aligns with Garza.
Carrillo, 28, signed with WWE in 2018 after a successful run in Mexico, and after feuding with Garza for a time, they began teaming up in 2021 as Los Lotharios.
They returned to NXT for a bit, but resurfaced on the main roster in December 2022 by aligning themselves with Santos Escobar and forming the new Legado del Fantasma.
While Carrillo and Garza have primarily been deployed as henchmen of sorts for Escobar and haven't necessarily been contenders for tag team gold, they have done quite well in their role.
